Privacy Policy

Sayplain helps you understand confusing documents. We take the privacy of those documents seriously. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written to align with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

• Your account: the email address and password you sign up with.
• Your documents: the photos, PDFs or text you add, and the plain-English explanations we generate from them.
• Usage information: basic, privacy-friendly analytics about how the app is used, to help us improve it.

How we use it

We use your documents only to provide the service to you: to read them, generate an explanation, and store your history so you can find it again. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your documents to train AI models.

Who processes your data

To run Sayplain we use a small number of trusted providers, acting on our instructions:

• Google (Gemini API): the text and images of your document are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate your explanation. Content sent via the API is not used to train Google's models.
• Convex: stores your account, documents and history.
• Vercel: hosts the app.
• Resend: sends account emails, such as password resets.
• Stripe: processes payments if you subscribe to Pro. We never see your full card details.

Keeping and deleting your documents

Your documents stay in your account until you delete them. You can delete any document at any time from within the app, which removes the explanation and the uploaded file. If you want your whole account and all its data deleted, email us at hello@sayplain.com.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our infrastructure providers behind access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. Contact us at hello@sayplain.com. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy matter, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Children

Sayplain is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
